No prior trekking experience required, but fitness is important.
Your Sar Pass Trek begins from Kasol (5,400 ft), a popular base in Parvati Valley. The trail starts with a gradual walk along the Parvati River and then enters dense pine forests. The route is well-defined and passes through small bridges, waterfalls, and shaded forest sections.
As you gain altitude, the climb becomes slightly steeper but remains manageable for beginners. After a few hours, you reach Grahan Village (7,700 ft), a traditional Himalayan village known for its wooden houses and peaceful surroundings. You can explore the village, interact with locals, and enjoy your first campsite experience.
After breakfast, the trail moves deeper into dense forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron. The ascent becomes steeper compared to Day 1, and the trek requires better stamina. The path is surrounded by thick vegetation, making it a shaded and refreshing walk.
As you climb higher, the forest gradually opens into wide meadows. Min Thach (9,900 ft) is a beautiful campsite offering panoramic views of the valley and distant snow-capped peaks. The sunset here is especially scenic.
This day marks a significant altitude gain as you move closer to the snowline. The trail starts with a steady climb and gradually leaves the tree line behind. Depending on the season, you will start encountering snow patches on the route.
The trek becomes more challenging due to thinner air and steeper sections. Nagaru (12,500 ft) is a high-altitude campsite, often covered in snow, and offers stunning views of Himalayan peaks. Temperatures drop significantly here, especially at night.
The most important day of the Sar Pass Trek starts early in the morning. You begin with a steep climb on snow-covered trails towards Sar Pass (13,800 ft). The ascent can be challenging, but the views from the top make it worth the effort.
After reaching the summit, you get panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The descent towards Barshaini is long and includes the famous snow slide, which is one of the most exciting parts of the trek. The landscape changes drastically as you descend from snow to greener valleys.
After breakfast, you leave Barshaini and travel back to Kasol. The drive follows the Parvati River and offers scenic views of the valley. This marks the end of your Sar Pass Trek journey.
You can spend some time in Kasol exploring cafes or start your return journey home.
