Overview
Tungnath temple situated at the Chandranath Parvat is the highest shiva temple in the world and the highest Panch kedar temple in Uttarakhand. It is at the elevation of around 3680 meters above from sea level and is considered to be around 1000 years old. Being the highest temple it is quite easy to reach there it is a moderate trek around 3.5 to 4km commencing from Chopta around 2700mts in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is accessible all around the year but receives heavy snowfall during winter season. It is considered to be one of the best weekend treks. It is surrounded by massive forest trails of maple, oak, pine tees and crystal clear Lake view. Nanda Devi, Trishul, kedar peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhambha peaks are visible from the peak. After that Chandrashila peak is just 1.5 to 2kms from Tungnath temple has captivating beauty of deodar and rhododendron forest. Chandrashila can be a little difficult to hike as it is a steep climb but worth all the hardship. It has a enchanting view and visitors will be amazed by the vegetation during spring.
